This research project focuses on the scientific evaluation of Panchagavya formulations as natural probiotic agents, integrating traditional Indian knowledge systems with modern microbiological validation. Panchagavya is a bioactive formulation prepared from five products obtained from indigenous Indian cows—milk, curd, ghee, urine, and dung—each contributing distinct nutritional, enzymatic, and microbial attributes.
Panchagavya is naturally enriched with beneficial microorganisms, particularly lactic acid bacteria and yeast, which play a vital role in improving gut microbiota balance, digestion, and overall health. This study aims to systematically validate the probiotic potential of Panchagavya through microbiological and functional assessments.
Special emphasis is placed on indigenous Indian cow breeds, known for their superior milk quality, enhanced medicinal properties, and resilient genetics. These traits significantly influence the bioactive and microbial profile of Panchagavya. The project also highlights the importance of conserving native cow breeds to support sustainable agriculture, animal health, and traditional knowledge systems.
